Yeghishe Kirakosyan: Now, there are no Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh; if this is not considered ethnic cleansing, then I have no idea what ethnic cleansing means

On Sept. 19, Azerbaijan launched an offensive against
Artsakh, then cynically unblocked the Lachin corridor for the first time after
a nine-month blockade, so that the Armenians of Artsakh would leave. RA
Representative on International Legal Matters Yeghishe Kirakosyan said
this.

“Now, there are no Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh; if this is
not considered ethnic cleansing, then I have no idea what ethnic cleansing
means. Azerbaijan would announce that it is ready for the return of Armenians.
In fact, they said the same thing after the 44-day war, but have not allowed a
single Armenian to return to the occupied territories. Azerbaijan will promise
to respect the rights and security of the Armenian population. However, they
made similar promises earlier and had no scruples about breaching international
conventions,” he said.

According to Kirakosyan, Azerbaijan will be held liable by
the International Court of Justice.

“Baku’s cynicism knows no bounds. Many people have been
abducted and illegally put in prison in Azerbaijan. But we still have time to
rectify the situation. Only interim measures of the court can put the brakes on
the ethnic cleansing — something that happened in Nakhijevan  — and
protect the former leaders of Artsakh from Baku’s unlawful actions,” he said.
