Russia detects NATO attempts to advance its interests in the
South Caucasus through Armenia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said
this to the press in Bishkek.
He stated that the growth of anti-Russian sentiments in
Armenia is sometimes promoted intentionally.
“We know that in recent years many NGOs have opened in
Armenia. In fact, they were not few in number earlier. The aim of these
organizations is not to foster friendly relations between Armenia and Russia.
On the contrary, they are aimed at paving the way for anti-Russian sentiments
and the promotion of the U.S., EU and NATO interests in the region through
Armenia,” Lavrov said.
According to him, in some cases these attempts succeed.
However, Russia is sure that the majority of the Armenian nation is interested
in the strengthening of the traditional fraternal ties with Russia.
With reference to Pashinyan’s latest statement that Armenia
has not changed its political line, Lavrov voiced hope that this position will
prevail despite the attempts to bring Armenia into another line.
