Fluctuations in exchange rates

Fluctuations in exchange rates have occurred after the
recent internal and external developments in Armenia. The Armenian dram rapidly
depreciated, and the dollar rate to one AMD reached to 460. Economists
explained this by the several million dollars sent from abroad to help our
compatriots displaced from Artsakh, as well as by the feeling of panic, which
made people buy large amounts of dollars.

A few days after the cessation of hostilities and the
displacement of the people of Artsakh, the dollar exchange rate dropped. Today,
the dollar rate to one AMD is 390. However, inflation has not stopped.
Moreover, prices for liquid fuel are going up.

Economist Tadevos Avetisyan says that now the situation in
the market is stable. But a number of businesspeople have incurred huge
losses.

“This, in fact, lowered negative expectations. However, the
consequences are obvious. Finding themselves in that tense situation, many
people, as well as small and big businesses, were unable to make the right
decision and incurred significant losses,” the economist said to ABC
Media.
