On the occasion of the U.N. Climate Change Conference (COP29), to be held in November in Baku, Laurent Guillemin, the deputy mayor of Bordeaux, will ride a bicycle through Europe to the Azerbaijani-Georgian border. According to the original plan, he was supposed to reach Baku by bicycle from Bordeaux.
However, the travel plan was revised after Azerbaijani authorities advised French citizens not to visit the country. The reason for this is the tension between the two countries, which arose after Baku’s attack on Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2023.
“As soon as I reach the border of Georgia and Azerbaijan, I will say that COP29 is symbolically over for me,” Guillemin said.
