Kyiv calls on international community not to attend COP29

The U.N. climate summit COP29 will be held in Azerbaijan in November. The Kremlin has confirmed that Vladimir Putin is considering attending the event. However, Ukrainian Ambassador to the EU Vsevolod Chentsov has already announced that the international community should avoid participating in the Baku climate meeting if the Russian president also participates.

“We must apply pressure, and our partners must make it clear to Azerbaijan that if Putin is there, they will not go,” Chentsov said.

Earlier, Spokesperson for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said the decision on Putin’s participation has not been finalized yet.

The European media also has grievances against “Aliyev Azerbaijan”, which, as Estonian ERR.EE writes, “also has problems with human rights.”

“Due to widespread corruption, the country’s huge oil and gas revenues benefit the privileged elite rather than the general population,” the source writes.

“Aliyev has been in power since 2003, when he replaced his father in this position. Thus, his experience is a little less than that of Putin’s, as the latter has been the head of the Russian government since the beginning of 2000,” the publication said.
