Armenia and Turkey ‘have agreed to evaluate the technical requirements for crossing the border with the Gyumri-Kars railway’

Armenia and Turkey have already agreed to jointly evaluate the technical requirements for crossing the border with the Gyumri-Kars railway. As Azatutyun radio station reports, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said this today at the regional 3+3 format meeting in Istanbul.

According to Mirzoyan, this complements the already implemented decisions on the establishment of direct flights between two neighboring countries with closed borders and mutual removal of air cargo transportation bans.

“The operation of the Gyumri-Kars railway between Armenia and Turkey, together with the railway connection between Armenia and Azerbaijan, will immediately ensure an effective connection between the Persian Gulf, the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea,” Mirzoyan noted.

The last time a train passed through the railway from Gyumri to Kars was in 1993; the state border between the two countries was closed that year.

In addition, Ararat Mirzoyan noted that Armenia has already completed the construction of the Margara border crossing on the border with Turkey and the provision of technical re-equipment.
