Lavrov summarizes 3+3 format meeting
During the press conference on the results of the 3+3 meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the main threat to the security of the South Caucasus is that non-regional players are trying to implement their schemes, which are not aimed at solving the problems of the region, but aim to bring here NATO-centric formats, drive a wedge between two neighboring states, and use their opportunities to exert pressure.
Lavrov noted that there are still problems between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Russia, Turkey and Iran have offered Armenia and Azerbaijan to use the 3+3 platform to complete the work on the peace treaty. “We reminded them about the preparations that were made as a result of the trilateral work of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan, both in the direction of unblocking communications, and in the direction of demarcation and delimitation. There are also questions regarding the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations. Russia has actively contributed to the start of that process. Our Iranian neighbors joined us. Currently, no meetings are planned. Armenian partners have taken a break. They believe they should communicate directly with the Turks first and understand what needs to be done. I think it is, in any case, related to the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. For this reason, we have proposed discussing these issues in a complex version and encouraging the involved parties to come to an agreement quickly. And we, Russia and Iran, are ready to support them,” Lavrov said. He added that Russia would be happy if Azerbaijan and Armenia could come to an agreement directly.
