UN: Since the start of the Israeli military operation, over 440,000 people have left Lebanon
At least 440,000 refugees have left Lebanon since Israel’s military operation against the Shiite Hezbollah movement began at the end of September, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Lebanon said.
It is also noted that another 22,000 Lebanese have moved to Iraq.
To remind, on Sept. 23, Israel launched the Northern Arrows operation against Hezbollah, making large-scale airstrikes on the Shiite organization’s military facilities in Lebanon. On the night of Oct. 1, the Israeli army announced the launch of a ground operation in the border regions of southern Lebanon.
As reported, according to the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, about 440,000 people have crossed the border between Lebanon and Syria since Sept. 23.
