Meeting in Granada canceled; Aliyev refuses to attend talks

Azerbaijan has refused to attend the five-party meeting
scheduled for Oct. 5 in Granada, Spain.

According to the Azerbaijani side, an anti-Azerbaijani
atmosphere has been created with regard to the existing format.

Azerbaijan had proposed that Turkey attend the talks as
well. However, the proposal was rejected.

In light of the pro-Armenian statements of French officials,
the French Foreign Minister’s visit to Armenia, the statements on providing
Armenia with weapons and ammunition, and the accusations by the president of
the European Council, Charles Michel against Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan considers
it unnecessary to attend the talks in this format.

Baku claims that they see no necessity to discuss regional
issues with non-regional countries. The issues can be discussed and settled
within regional frameworks.

However, if the EU-Azerbaijan-Armenia trilateral format is
restored, Azerbaijan can take part in the talks.
