Nebenzya: Israel’s decision will have negative consequences
The decision to ban the activities of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) will have negative consequences for the region and for the U.N. itself Permanent Representative of Russia to the U.N. Vasily Nebenzya said.
On Oct. 28, Israel’s Knesset approved bills banning the agency from operating in Israel, as well as in Israeli-controlled territories.
Nebenzya announced during the session of the U.N. Security Council that as a result of the decision of the Knesset, that agency has found itself on the verge of dissolution.
“Russia is convinced that such a decision may put an end to the activities of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East,” the official said, adding that the Israeli parliament’s move violates the U.N. Charter.
According to the Russian diplomat, Israel has made a sole decision to dissolve the unwanted organization.
