At a meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential elections.
According to Putin, one can have any attitude toward Trump. During his first presidency, people used to say he is a businessman, understands little about politics, and may make mistakes.
“His behavior at the moment of the assassination attempt was impressive. He is a brave person, and it’s not merely about a raised hand and a call to fight for universal values,” Putin said.
According to the Russian president, a person shows himself in crisis situations, and Trump has shown himself correctly and manly. At the same time, Putin noted that Trump was persecuted from all sides, and was afraid to take a step left or right, or to utter a word.
“I don’t know what will happen now; I have no idea. However, this is the last term for him. What he will do is a question, but what has been said publicly so far was about restoring relations with Russia and helping end the Ukrainian crisis. In my opinion, it is at least worthy of attention. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on being elected U.S. president,” Putin said.
Russia will work with anyone whom the American people trust, the Russian president added. He is ready to hold discussions and does not consider it discreditable to call Trump, but he does not do that. The point is that the heads of the Western states used to call the Russian president almost every week, but then they suddenly stopped to do so.
