WSJ: Trump plans to increase sanctions on Iran and throttle its oil sales
Republican Donald Trump, who won the U.S. presidential elections, plans to increase sanctions on Iran and throttle its oil sales, The Wall Street Journal reports, referring to sources familiar with Trump’s plans.
The newspaper noted that Trump had a negative attitude toward Iran during his first presidential term.
The persons speaking to WSJ claim that the new team will act quickly to reduce Iran’s oil revenues. This would recreate the strategy that Trump pursued during his first term. At the same time, the officials do not specify how exactly the Republican plans to increase pressure on Iran.
Trump won the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 5. According to NBC News, he secured 301 electoral votes, while his opponent, incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, won 226 votes.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that it is not important for Tehran who won the U.S. presidential elections, as Iran prioritizes the development of relations with Islamic and neighboring countries.
