U.S. President-elect Donald Trump had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin and discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine, The Washington Post reports.
As noted, the conversation took place on Nov. 7. Putin and Trump talked for the first time after Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential elections.
According to the sources of The Washington Post, Trump advised Putin not to escalate the ongoing war in Ukraine, reminding him of the rather large U.S. military presence in Europe.
Trump and Putin also discussed peace in Europe.
“Trump has expressed interest in having further conversations to discuss the issue of the early resolution of the war in Ukraine,” the newspaper’s sources noted.
