Iranian president not to attend COP29 in Baku

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will not attend COP29, the U.N. climate conference, Iranian media reports, referring to a member of the information council of the government.

“Decades after the genocide, the Zionist regime of Israel has been invited to attend COP29, the U.N. Climate Change Conference, in Baku, and is preparing to sign environmental protection documents with hands stained by the blood of innocent people. One of the key points of this meeting is that it is taking place in Baku, a country that has close relations with the Zionist regime and has faced significant criticism over the past year. However, the issue goes beyond merely blaming Baku; in essence, this summit is associated with the U.N., and Azerbaijan is simply hosting it,” the Iranian media says, questioning how logical Iran’s participation in COP29 at the presidential level is, considering the circumstances.

The article noted that many world leaders are not going to participate in this summit organized by Baku, for example, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, U.S. President Joe Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin. Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, have also announced that they would not visit Azerbaijan.
