Claims of Greece transferring S-300s to Armenia appear false given geopolitical situation

The escalation on the Ukrainian front and the U.S. presidential elections have partially prevented a massive process affecting Europe, NATO, and the South Caucasus, EADaily writes.

As noted, a victory for Republican Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential elections would be favorable for Ankara and Baku.

“It would not be surprising if Turkey and the U.K. begin negotiations with the Trump administration, resulting in the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the normalization of relations between Ankara and Nicosia,” the news website stated.

The article noted that, in light of the ongoing contacts between the Greek states and Azerbaijan, trends in further normalization of Greek-Turkish relations, and the Greek Cypriots’ course toward NATO membership, the information regarding Greece transferring S-300 air defense systems to Armenia seems fake. This is particularly relevant considering Nikol Pashinyan’s government course toward reconciliation with the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem.

“For now, the trend suggests that Cyprus is going to join NATO amid the Euro-Atlantic community’s ongoing confrontation with Russia, which implies complex negotiations over the resolution of the Cyprus conflict involving the U.S., the U.K., Turkey, and Greece. There is a possibility that Ankara, Baku, and London will exert pressure on the Greek states to compel them to recognize the TRNC’s independence in the interest of strengthening and expanding NATO,” the news website writes.
