Amnesty International: Israel’s genocidal actions were carried out with the specific intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza

Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, Amnesty International says in a report.  The organization interviewed 212 people, including Palestinian victims and witnesses, local authorities in Gaza, healthcare workers, conducted fieldwork and analyzed an extensive range of visual and digital evidence, including satellite imagery. It also analyzed statements by senior Israeli government and military officials, and official Israeli bodies. The report demonstrates that Israel has carried out acts prohibited under the Genocide Convention, with the specific intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel has strongly rejected the report’s claims and described them as “completely false” and “based on lies,” adding that Amnesty is a “deplorable and bigoted organization.”

The report said that countries that supply weapons to Israel, including the U.S. and Germany, are failing to meet their obligations to prevent genocide. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Israel killed more than 42,000 Palestinians, including more than 13,300 children, and injured more than 97,000 in the first year of the war in the Gaza Strip. Amnesty International insists that the real numbers could be higher.

“Month after month, Israel has treated Palestinians in Gaza as a subhuman group unworthy of human rights and dignity, demonstrating its intent to physically destroy them,” Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, said.

Earlier, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
