Macron accepts government resignation
French President Emmanuel Macron has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s government, the Élysée Palace stated. Barnier will stay in office until a new prime minister is appointed.
Barnier’s government received a vote of no confidence yesterday. The issue was put to a vote after Barnier approved the 2025 budget without consulting the lawmakers. The last time the French parliament expressed no confidence was against Georges Pompidou’s government in 1962.
