Al-Qaeda, the Al-Nusra Front, Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, and Tahrir al-Sham. Abu Mohammad al-Julani has transformed from a jihadist extremist into the leader of a nation. Born in Saudi Arabia, he is an introverted figure with thick glasses, Ahmad al-Shara, who would go on to become the commander of militants capable of toppling the Assad regime that has lasted for half a century.
