Russian media: Armenia-Azerbaijan tensions persist
If Armenia decides to sever ties with Russia, it is unlikely that the West will come to its aid, Nikita Mendkovich, Head of the Eurasian Analytical Club, said on Govorit Moskva. Mendkovich noted that the U.S. and its allies are primarily interested in destabilization in the Caucasus.
“Armenia will receive verbal support from the West, but the outcome will be predictable. However, the West has no intention of helping Armenia. Their only concern is the destabilization of the Caucasus and the creation of controlled chaos against Russia,” Mendkovich stated.
Moskovskiy Komsomolets, in turn, noted that the case with Armenia is that it is unclear in exchange for what it will withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). “The disputes with Azerbaijan remain, and it is better to be part of some alliance than to be completely alone. Neither France nor the U.S. will be able to ensure the country’s security, given at least their geographical distance from the region. Furthermore, it is unlikely that they will provide significant military support to Yerevan, as Baku would express its discontent. Therefore, as long as Yerevan has not received security guarantees from its Western partners, leaving the CSTO will not bring it any real benefit,” the news website writes.
