Blinken-Fidan meeting begins in Ankara
The meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has started in Ankara. Turkish media reports that the officials will discuss the situation in Syria.
Yesterday, Blinken met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara to discuss recent developments in Syria. Blinken addressed the strong regional cooperation between the U.S. and Turkey and their mutual interest in supporting a political transition to an accountable and inclusive government in Syria.
He reaffirmed the importance of all actors in Syria taking all possible steps to respect human rights, uphold international humanitarian law, and protect civilians, including members of minority groups.
Blinken emphasized the importance of facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid to all those in need and noted that displaced Syrians will still need protection.
