Presidential elections in Georgia today

Presidential elections are being held in Georgia today.

For the first time in history, the president will not be chosen by the public but by a 300-member electoral college composed of representatives from the country’s parliament, autonomous republics, and local advisory bodies.

The country’s opposition has announced it will not participate in the process, rejecting the results of the parliamentary elections and considering the current parliament and all its decisions illegitimate.

Incumbent President Salome Zourabichvili shares this view, declaring she will remain in office and will not vacate her position until new parliamentary elections are held in the country.
