Aliyev: Azerbaijan has not purchased weapons from Russia in the last 3 years but plans to do so in the future

Azerbaijan plans to resume purchases of Russian weapons, although this process has been temporarily halted for objective reasons, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev told RIA Novosti.

“However, I must note that no new contracts for the purchase of Russian weapons have been signed in at least the last three years,” Aliyev said.

According to him, the temporary lack of new contracts is explained by the Russian defense industry’s work “for the domestic consumer.”

Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan is satisfied with the development of relations with Russia and expects to maintain positive dynamics in 2025. Baku and Moscow continue to find new areas for trade and economic cooperation. He mentioned that trade turnover between the countries is not growing as quickly as they would like, but “there is dynamics.” Additionally, the Azerbaijani side has observed a significant increase in reciprocal visits over the last 2–3 years, Aliyev said.
