Erdoğan intends to continue military operations against Syrian Kurds
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that Ankara may intervene directly in the situation in northern Syria to eliminate the threat Turkey perceives from Kurdish groups, specifically the YPG-PKK, Anadolu reports.
“We will show that it is time to eliminate terrorist organizations operating in Syria. We will do this to prevent further threats emerging from our southern borders,” Erdoğan stated.
According to him, ensuring the security of Turkey’s borders with Syria will also help prevent the recruitment of new fighters for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Notably, Erdoğan’s statement comes shortly after a Pentagon representative officially confirmed that the number of U.S. troops in northeastern Syria has doubled in recent days.
