Expert: Armenia is among the countries benefiting most from sanctions against Russia
Armenia, Georgia, and Kazakhstan have benefited from the sanctions against Russia, while Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have been most affected, Alexey Bobrovsky, Director of the Institute for Global Market Studies, said in an interview with TASS.
“For some post-Soviet countries, the sanctions against Russia have been a significant boost for economic growth. This has been felt primarily in Armenia, Georgia, and Kazakhstan, where many of our citizens relocated after the start of the war in Ukraine,” the expert noted.
He added that the effects of this move were somewhat short-term: “As soon as their funds ran out, they returned to Russia, although there are still companies opened by Russian citizens in Georgia and Armenia.” Bobrovsky pointed out that a longer-term effect is observed in countries like Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, which have become unique transit points for parallel imports.
