Aliyev on causes of Azerbaijani plane crash

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev revealed several reasons related to the crash of the AZAL plane near Aktau during an interview with an Azerbaijani TV channel.

Aliyev stated that the final version of events will be known after the black boxes are opened, APA reports.

“However, the preliminary hypotheses are quite well-founded and based on facts. The facts are that the Azerbaijani civilian plane was struck externally near the city of Grozny and in fact lost control due to an electronic attack; this was the first damage inflicted on the plane,” Aliyev noted.

He added that the tail section of the plane suffered significant damage as a result of fire from below.
