European commissioner for enlargement: The EU will carefully consider Armenia’s possible membership application

The European Union will carefully examine Armenia’s potential membership application, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said in a speech at the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs in Brussels, Azatutyun reports.

“We can also hear that there are positive developments toward submitting an application for EU membership. That is a choice, and we must study all applications in great detail, and we will do the same in Armenia’s case. However, this choice, if Armenia decides to apply, comes with obligations. And I am sure, as is on my agenda, to visit Armenia in the first half of the year to see on the ground what we need to do in advance or what information needs to be exchanged,” Kos said.

Last week, the government approved a draft law on the initiation of the process for Armenia’s membership in the European Union, sending it to Parliament for discussion.
