Who is Supreme Judicial Council member candidate Alexander Sirunyan and what is he known for?

Alexander Sirunyan, nominated as a candidate for the Supreme Judicial Council, was born in 1971 in Georgia. Sirunyan graduated from Yerevan State University, from the Faculty of Law in 1993. He holds a PhD in Law and serves as an associate professor.

In 1993-2009, he worked as a prosecutor in the Republic of Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office. Since 2001, he has been teaching at the Chair of Civil Procedure at Yerevan State University. He is the author of several dozen books and has his own law firm.

Today, his election is also on the agenda of the National Assembly. Representatives of civil society, law firms, and various NGOs have already criticized his candidacy.

The Supreme Judicial Council is an independent state body that ensures the independence of courts and judges, while Alexander Sirunyan is known for his pronounced political views. Moreover, he is a member of the Civil Contract party.

Sirunyan stands out on social media for his posts, where he uses inflammatory language and spreads hate speech.
