Effective and rich negotiations: Lavrov summarizes meeting with Mirzoyan
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the bilateral negotiations with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Moscow as effective and rich.
“Ararat Samvelovich Mirzoyan and I have not engaged in such detailed discussions on bilateral issues for a long time. We have met at various events, but we could not delve into the topics comprehensively enough to practically discuss the entire range of issues that have long been on our agenda. I am very glad that we have overcome this gap today,” Lavrov stated at the press conference following the meeting.
According to the Russian foreign minister, the parties openly discussed almost the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, as well as regional and international issues. “And on several matters, we managed to reach mutually acceptable solutions,” Lavrov stated.
Russia reaffirmed its readiness to assist Yerevan and Baku in the normalization of relations across all areas, including support for the development of peace treaty provisions.
“We talked about regional issues, including the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. We confirmed our continued readiness to assist Yerevan and Baku in all areas of this settlement, if they are interested, including a peace treaty, delimitation, assistance in the development of border provisions, unblocking transport communications, and, of course, humanitarian issues,” Lavrov stated.
Moscow considers the work of the 3+3 consultative format involving Armenia as promising.
“We confirmed our interest in launching the 3+3 consultative format, which includes the three countries of the South Caucasus—Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia—and their three neighbors—Russia, Iran, and Turkey. We view this platform as very promising,” Lavrov noted.
Russia would be pleased to see the Armenian leadership in Moscow for the May celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day.
The Russian foreign minister said Moscow and Yerevan are working on the visit of Russia’s Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko to Armenia. Additionally, Lavrov stated that he also plans to visit Yerevan.
“There is a need to enhance cooperation between our ministries, and I will certainly take advantage of the invitation that Ararat Samvelovich extended to me today to visit Yerevan,” he said.
