Fidan speaks with Rubio and Araghchi on Syria and Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan yesterday to reaffirm the importance of U.S.-Turkey relations, Turkey’s role as a key NATO ally, and the two countries’ shared interests in the region. Rubio highlighted the need for an inclusive transition in Syria, ensuring that the new government prevents Syria from becoming a source for international terrorism.

Rubio and Fidan also discussed the importance of a durable and dignified peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The U.S. secretary of state also expressed his deepest condolences for the lives lost and those injured in the tragic hotel fire in Bolu.

Fidan also had a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The latter reaffirmed Iran’s support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the need to avoid internal conflicts and form an inclusive government with the participation of all political, ethnic and religious movements.
