Ukrainian conflict may end in 1.5 to 2 months: Putin on negotiations

The conflict in Ukraine could come to an end in 1.5 to 2 months if the funding and ammunition from sponsors cease, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated during an appearance in “Moscow: Kremlin: Putin” program on Russia-1 TV channel.

He stated that the West has convinced Kyiv to continue the war, claiming that Ukraine’s sovereignty is nearly nonexistent.

“As is well known, at that time, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson came—likely at the instigation of the previous U.S. administration, led by former President Joe Biden—and persuaded the Ukrainians to continue the war. In fact, no one hides this, and senior Ukrainian officials themselves publicly stated this. The British leadership does not conceal it either and speaks about it openly. They rejected that agreement and decided to continue the war,” Putin noted.

He added that negotiations with Ukraine began at the onset of the special military operation, with Moscow offering Kyiv to withdraw from the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR), which would have prevented hostilities.

Putin expressed his willingness to engage with those who would negotiate with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, should he wish to participate in talks. At the same time, the Russian president noted that while negotiations can be held with anyone, Zelenskyy, due to his lack of legitimacy, has no right to sign any agreements.

He highlighted that there can be no mistakes regarding the signing of documents between Russia and Ukraine; everything must be refined.

According to him, during any potential negotiations with Ukraine, Russia will protect its own national interests.

“This is a very serious issue that must ensure the security of both Ukraine and Russia in a serious, long-term, historical perspective… We will achieve what we need, what corresponds to our interests,” Putin stated.

He concluded that if Ukraine is willing to find compromise solutions, anyone can negotiate.
