Hamas confirms its military wing commander’s death

Hamas has confirmed the deaths of Mohammed Deif, Commander of the al-Qassam Brigades (the movement’s military wing), and his deputy, Marwan Issa, Spokesperson for Al-Qassam Brigades Abu Obaida said.

“We mourn the deaths of Al-Qassam Brigades Commander Mohammed Deif and his Deputy Marwan Issa,” Obaida stated in a video message.

In August 2024, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it had eliminated Hamas military wing leader Mohammed Deif during an attack in Khan Younis on July 13 of that year.

To remind, Israel and Hamas reached a 42-day ceasefire deal mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, declaring their commitment to a definitive end to hostilities. A ceasefire regime has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since Jan. 19.
