Russia welcomes Trump’s statement pulling Ukraine into NATO mistake

Russia welcomes U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that it would be a mistake to pull Ukraine into NATO, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a round table with foreign ambassadors in Moscow.

Lavrov noted that in one of his first speeches, Trump criticized the stance of the previous administration under Joe Biden regarding Ukraine, considering one of its main mistakes to be pulling Ukraine into NATO.

“For the first time, a Western leader (and not just any Western leader, but the president of the United States) said that one of the main mistakes was pulling Ukraine into NATO. And for the first time, the U.S. is ready to seriously discuss the issue of NATO,” Lavrov said.
