Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran are implementing a project for the North-South transport corridor, specifically the expansion of the railway line, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a press briefing.

“The automobile route, by the way, has been operational for a long time. The volume of freight transportation has been steadily increasing year by year. We are now working on creating seamless railway logistics in the western part of the corridor. This will be possible after the implementation of the construction project for the section between the cities of Rasht and Astara. It is a section that spans 162 kilometers,” Zakharova added.
