Peskov responds to Alen Simonyan’s statement
Russia is ready to support the peaceful settlement between Armenia and Azerbaijan but also welcomes independent steps taken by the parties, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said in response to the statement made by Armenian National Assembly President Alen Simonyan.
Simonyan had previously said that Russia’s participation in the settlement process was “unlikely” due to “sad memories” from past experience.
“We have heard statements from Yerevan at various levels indicating that, in fact, there is no need for mediators. Both Yerevan and Baku are now capable of continuing negotiations until the process is completed. We will welcome their independent efforts,” Peskov noted.
The Kremlin spokesperson expressed Moscow’s stance, noting that “the most important thing is for the South Caucasus region to remain predictable, in peace, and truly become an area of prosperity and cooperation.”
