Macron opposes Trump’s plan to resettle Palestinians
French President Emmanuel Macron said he is opposed to U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to resettle Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
Macron noted that countries should respect the desire of Palestinians to remain in the Gaza Strip and the reluctance of Jordan and Egypt to accept large numbers of refugees from the region.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had announced that the U.S. would “take over” the Gaza Strip and be responsible for the reconstruction of the region, turning it into a “Middle Eastern Riviera” for the world. At the same time, he described the Gaza Strip as a place of destruction and stated that its residents should permanently leave for other countries, specifically offering Jordan or Egypt as options for resettlement. Trump also did not exclude sending U.S. military forces to Gaza and promised to personally visit the region.
