Peskov: High-ranking officials from Russia and the US will meet in Riyadh

The communications between Russia and the U.S. in Riyadh will primarily aim to restore the full spectrum of relations between the two countries and prepare for a possible meeting regarding Ukraine, Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted.

Peskov told reporters that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Yuri Ushakov, Aide to the President of Russia for Foreign Policy, will leave for Riyadh on Monday at the direction of the Russian president to meet with U.S. representatives on Tuesday.

“First and foremost, the communications that will take place on Tuesday will pertain to the restoration of the entire range of Russian-American relations and the preparation for possible negotiations regarding Ukraine,” Peskov told reporters when asked if the potential lifting of sanctions against Russia is part of the negotiations in Saudi Arabia.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Feb. 13 that senior representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States would meet at the Munich Security Conference. He later noted that the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine would hold a high-level meeting in Saudi Arabia.
