Rosbalt: Has Turkey decided to ‘break’ the EU, while Armenia is in a dream?

The Greek newspaper Democracy writes that the U.S. president is “disappointing” his ally, the prime minister of Greece, by “satisfying the joint demands of Putin and Erdoğan.” In this regard, Rosbalt notes that Erdoğan is now attacking the entire European Union. He has stated that only Turkey can save the EU from the problems it is facing due to the special military operation in Ukraine. According to Erdoğan, Ankara can strengthen European defense and invigorate the continent’s aging population. However, “this is only possible if Ankara becomes an EU member.”

Greece and Turkey have been in a constant state of conflict for many years. They have been kept from war multiple times due to both being part of NATO. “And then Trump leaves, and Erdoğan immediately jumps, but not on Greece, rather on the entire European Union,” the website wrote, reminding that the Turkish army is second in NATO after the U.S. Europe, as a whole, practically has an army similar to Turkey’s. What will happen if a systemic and steadfast Turkey joins the EU can also be speculated.

“It is also interesting that Georgia and Armenia have long been placing bets on EU membership. Georgia is no longer in the game, but Armenia is still dreaming. If Turkey begins to break Europe, Armenia will also receive its share,” Rosbalt writes.
