Lebedev: CIS countries are under great pressure; Security threats persist

The security threats to the CIS countries are not fading, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev told reporters.

A regular meeting of the Council of Permanent Representatives of the CIS Member States in statutory and other bodies is taking place in Minsk at the CIS Executive Committee. The meeting will discuss the implementation of the roadmap for initiatives expressed in the CIS meetings regarding security cooperation for the years 2020-2024.

“This is a very important field, especially today, considering the security threats to the CIS countries that we are experiencing—which, unfortunately, are not weakening. Both the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation can feel this. You can see that other CIS countries are also under great pressure,” Lebedev said, emphasizing that all proposals and initiatives are being implemented quite effectively and successfully. Many of them have a long-term nature. Thus, the implementation of many of these decisions in the security sector continues and is expected to span several years.
