Mineral deal canceled as US-Ukraine presidential meeting in Washington fails
The meeting between the presidents of the United States and Ukraine in Washington has ended unsuccessfully. The sides failed to sign the framework agreement on Ukraine’s mineral resources, abruptly cutting the meeting short after a heated argument in the Oval Office in the presence of the press.
Donald Trump, who accused Zelenskyy of “a lack of respect,” immediately took to his Truth Social platform, stating that, in his view, the Ukrainian president is “not ready for peace.”
“We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure. It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace,” Trump wrote.
Zelenskyy, who has yet to make an official statement, left the White House. The White House has confirmed the cancellation of the planned Trump-Zelenskyy press conference.
