Jared Genser calls on Armenian authorities to actively engage in release of prisoners from Baku jails
Jared Genser, the lawyer for Ruben Vardanyan’s family, has urged the Armenian authorities to take a more active role in the effort to secure the release of prisoners from Baku’s jails, outlining what Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan can do, Sputnik Armenia reports.
Genser suggested:
- prioritizing the release of prisoners, convening a press conference, and writing articles for leading publications;
- meeting with the families of the prisoners, appealing to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the OSCE to send observers to the “courts”;
- calling on allied countries with embassies in Baku to send their representatives to these “courts” and even requesting that Baku allow Armenian observers to participate;
- reaching out to the U.S. president and the secretary of state, as well as the leaders of France and the EU;
- continuing proceedings in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR); calling on the ICC prosecutor to investigate the expulsion of 120,000 Armenians from Artsakh to Armenia;
- appealing to the U.N. secretary-general and the U.N. high commissioner for human rights.
