Ursula von der Leyen proposes €800B plan for EU rearmament
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has sent a letter to the leaders of the 27 EU countries, presenting her €800 billion plan to rearm the community. “The EU rearmament plan could mobilize around €800 billion for defense spending, aiming to create a safe and resilient Europe,” von der Leyen stated.
According to her, the plan consists of five points. Specifically, the commission president proposes that EU countries increase their current defense spending by 1.5% to raise €650 billion for arms production. Additionally, the European Commission intends to secure €150 billion in loans for air defense systems in the EU, as well as for arms production for Ukraine.
