Armenian history without Artsakh and heroes: New textbooks with revised content

In the Ottoman Empire, mentioning Armenia was forbidden, and during the Soviet era, writing about the homeland, the struggle for liberation, and the heroic chapters of Armenian history was prohibited. In 2025, already in Armenia, topics dedicated to Artsakh have been omitted from Armenian history textbooks, with the name Artsakh replaced exclusively by Karabakh.

Historians are sounding the alarm: In the new textbook, the subtitle “The Modern Phase of the Artsakh Liberation Struggle” has become “Culture in Nagorno-Karabakh”, while instead of the topic about the heroes of the Artsakh liberation struggle, students are offered to study the daily life and lifestyle of society.
