Canada will never, in any way, become part of America: Mark Carney elected Canada’s next prime minister
Mark Carney has been elected as the new leader of Canada’s ruling Liberal Party. He will replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced his intention to step down from office in January of this year.
Carney was the only candidate for the party leadership who was not a member of Trudeau’s government. According to the voting results, he received 85.9% of the votes. He is 59 years old and is a graduate of Harvard and Oxford universities, holding a PhD in economics.
Previously, he led the central bank and coordinated measures to overcome financial crises in North America and the U.K.
“I know that these dark days have been brought by a country that we can no longer trust,” Carney stated during his speech at the party convention, referring to U.S. tariffs.
He also noted that Canada will unite and recover from the shock.
“I promise you that together we will overcome this crisis. Canada will never, in any way, become part of America,” Carney said.
