Iran refuses direct talks with US

In a response letter addressed to U.S. President Donald Trump, Iranian authorities have declined to engage in direct negotiations with the United States but noted that there remains an opportunity to continue dialogue through intermediaries, TASS reports, referring to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

“Despite the fact that the proposal for direct negotiations between the two sides was rejected in the response letter, it was mentioned that the path for indirect negotiations remains open,” Pezeshkian’s press service stated.

The letter says Iran has never avoided negotiations; however, unmet promises have caused issues that need to be resolved to restore trust between the countries. The letter also mentions that the fate of negotiations “will be determined by the behavior of the Americans.”

To remind, on March 27, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran had sent an official response to Trump’s letter addressed to the country’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, using Oman’s mediation services.
