Sobhani: Iran is ready to support Armenia and Azerbaijan in signing a peace agreement
Iran hopes that Armenia and Azerbaijan will proceed along the path of restraint, ultimately leading to the signing of a peace agreement, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani said.
“We hope that both sides will be able to navigate the path toward a peace agreement through restraint. In my opinion, our region cannot withstand any tension. We hope that all parties will adhere to these principles aimed at peace and calmness,” Sobhani noted.
The ambassador added that Iran is in contact with both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“During our conversations and discussions, we urge both sides to move toward the signing of a peace agreement. Iran is ready to assist in maintaining peace, ensuring that the ceasefire is not violated, and helping the parties reach a peace agreement. I believe that in this regard, the 3+3 format is quite a good framework. By utilizing this format, we can move toward establishing peace,” Sobhani stated.
Addressing circulating information about Azerbaijan importing a large quantity of weapons from Israel, the ambassador stressed that they are opposed to the militarization of the region.
“We have good relations with Azerbaijan; it is our neighbor. We leverage our connections with Azerbaijan and do everything possible to establish peace in the region. In any case, we are closely monitoring regional developments,” the ambassador noted.
