France and Germany calling for strong and unified response to US tariffs

France and Germany have urged a strong and unified response to U.S. tariffs, French President Emmanuel Macron said.

“The European response will consist of two phases. The first response will be given in mid-April, and the second, more extensive one, at the end of April. Our response will be clear so that everyone understands it,” Macron said.

The German chancellor, for his part, stated that the entire global economy would suffer from the U.S. government’s heedless measures.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the launch of a government program to protect the Spanish economy from trade tariffs worth €14.1 billion.

On April 2, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to impose mirror import tariffs, with a base minimum rate of 10%.
