Fidan: Israel must pursue a more responsible foreign policy
Israel needs to conduct its foreign policy in the region with greater responsibility, as its chosen course will not bring stability to the Jewish state, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with Iraqi UTV.
“Israel must be more responsible in foreign policy matters. Its chosen strategy, particularly the occupation, will never bring it security and will have negative consequences. While the provocations it carries out may solve certain tactical issues, the damage on a strategic level will be much more serious,” he warned while commenting on the situation at the Syria-Israel border.
According to Fidan, there are two main political directions in Israel. Supporters of the first seek to build relationships with regional countries based on mutual respect, while the second aims to maintain the security of the Jewish state by weakening its neighbors. This trend is associated with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Turkish foreign minister believes.
“We have seen this tactic employed many times before, and it has never served the interests of Israel or the entire region; instead, it has created numerous problems,” Fidan noted.
