Iranian deputy foreign minister: Tehran is ready to support the establishment of peace between Yerevan and Baku
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi has announced that Tehran is committed to fostering good relations with neighboring countries, noting that the Islamic Republic is willing to assist Yerevan and Baku in achieving peace, Armenpress writes, referring to Tehran Times.
Ravanchi also highlighted the importance of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan for regional stability, urging both countries to focus on the future and noting that the document is ready for signing.
He condemned any violation of territorial integrity, stressing that military force should not be used to occupy another country’s territory. To ensure a peaceful future, he called for regional cooperation based on mutual respect and international law.
On March 13, Armenia and Azerbaijan announced that they had reached an agreement on the text of a draft peace agreement. Armenia proposed to begin consultations on determining the venue and timing for signing the peace agreement; however, Azerbaijan has raised new preconditions for signing the agreement. In particular, Azerbaijan continues to make unfounded claims that Armenia’s Constitution must be amended as it contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan also insists that the OSCE Minsk Group must be dissolved before the agreement is signed. The Armenian prime minister has suggested that Azerbaijan submit a request to dissolve the Minsk Group to the OSCE and sign the peace agreement together. Regarding Azerbaijan’s unfounded claims about Armenia’s Constitution, the Armenian side has repeatedly denied Baku’s accusations that the Armenian Constitution contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
