Erdoğan: In the 21st century, the fight is going to be not over oil but water

We do not wish to see new crises in our region, which has already suffered for many years from instability and conflicts, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.

He stated that “thanks to cross-border operations in northern Syria and Iraq, Turkey has moved closer to nipping terrorism in the bud and is now entering a new phase.” According to the Turkish president, the future struggle will be over water, the most strategic resource of the 21st century, rather than oil.

“Turkey is not a water-rich country; we live under water scarcity. If we do not take measures, we will face much more serious problems,” Erdoğan stated.
