Putin signs law on strategic partnership with Iran

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law to ratify the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Iran. The official document has been published on the legal acts official portal, TASS reports.

The agreement was signed on Jan. 17, 2025, during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Moscow.

Main provisions of the agreement include:

– Moscow and Tehran have agreed to support mutual economic cooperation in all sectors of mutual interest.

– The parties will closely cooperate on conducting joint military exercises.

– If one country is subjected to aggression, the other will not assist the attacker.

– Russia and Iran will prevent their territories from being used to support separatist movements that threaten their territorial integrity.

– Moscow and Tehran will collaborate in fighting international terrorism and other threats and challenges.

– The countries aim to oppose unilateral sanctions and consider their implementation an illegal international act.

– Moscow and Tehran have agreed to promote cooperation between their media outlets to counter misinformation and negative propaganda.

– Russia and Iran will provide mutual assistance to prevent natural and man-made disasters.

– The gas pipeline from Russia to Iran will pass through Azerbaijan; the parties are agreeing on the price.

– Russia and Iran are interested in joint projects in the peaceful nuclear energy sector, including the construction of nuclear power facilities.

The agreement is concluded for 20 years with automatic renewal for subsequent five-year periods.
